CT News As Of 01-13-2021

John Gibbons reported that the "Boston Build-Up" which is a four part series for those interested in LD running and/or having been accepted into the Boston Marathon (not this year though). The BB starts in January each year and increases in distance several weeks apart. The runs are low key and the host prefers self timing but is on site til the last finisher. The series is held in Fairfield County on Sunday mornings with price tag "as you go" or by the series at a minimum price. The distances are 10K, 15K, 20K and lastly a 25K (which dips into NY State for abt a mile). The first run was held successfully and runners are always happy to see each other albeit at a 6'distance and with masks. Runs are held in each month of Jan/Feb so as not to "compete" with other runs or victuals.

Janit Romayko reports that there were several race routes being run in December. One of the most popular is the Pearl Harbor 5.2 m route for the CT Championship for those over 40+ and up. The VFW of Waterford typically puts this race on with SNERRO timing and is purposely kept at a $20 entry fee. This was not to be this year but one group ran the course at 10am (party of four) and then another Mohegan Striders group of 12 split into four groups of three showed up at 11am. Way Hedding was the organizer and all self timed and delighted to see each other. All groups ran 6' apart and with masks and social distanced.

Additionally Way also "participated" in the 18th Annual Nooseneck 18K held in central Rhode Island on December 26th. This is and was a very difficult and hilly course with a circular route and self timed. It was not to be this year but the usually frivolities include raffle, prize for the best costume and left over recycled gifts.

Hopefully 2021 will be a better year for race directors, vendors, timers and runners.
